We are proud to announce that Sabomnim Tim Steger competed in the USA Taekwondo Team Trials on 7/2/10 in Orlando, Florida, taking the silver medal and capturing one of two spots on the 2010 National Poomsae Team. Steger is the first person from Florida to make the team in its five year history and was an alternate for the 2009 team missing the top spot by one-hundredth of a point. He will be representing the United States in the First Masters division at the First Senior Pan American Poomsae Championships this December in Monterrey, Mexico. On the second day of competition, Steger took the gold in Ultra Forms (5th Degree Black Belt, ages 33 to 99) to become first in the nation in this age bracket. Steger is a member of the Seattle, Washington-based Horizon Technical poomsae team coached by two-time US National coach Bob Maves and former Olympic team member Naim Hasan.

What is Tae Kwon Do?

Taekwondo is regarded as the world's most popular martial art and is the national sport of South Korea. In Korean, 'tae' means 'foot', 'kwon' means 'fist', and 'do' means 'way' - it is loosely translated as 'the way of fist and foot'. Taekwondo has evolved into a system that combines combat techniques, self defense, sport, exercise, meditation and philosophy. Tae kwon do is also incorporated into the training of the South Korean military.

Some commands regularly used
in the dojang (gym/studio) are:

Charyeot - attention
Baro - return
Gyeongnye - bow
Kihap - spirit yell
